World War III - Soviet: 2S1 Carnation Battery

The 2S1 Gvozdika (Carnation) self-propelled howitzer is a weapon system that sharply delineates the modernisation of the Soviet artillery arm. They have gone from truck-towed howitzers to self-propelled weapons that can keep pace with tanks and infantry fighting vehicles in the new rapid-paced battle doctrine.

Armed with a 122mm 2A31 howitzer, the 2S1 is equally capable of putting rounds 15 kilometres (nearly 10 miles) down range as it is of smashing defensive positions with point-blank range direct fire. Its 22kg (48 lb) shells make short work of anti-tank missile teams, and can even penetrate a main battle tank with a square-on hit.
